Old Business

Membership drive

Colby Prevost, RCA Treasurer, provided a summary of this year’s membership drive thus far. We have 120 members as of late, who have contributed approximately $5000 to the Randolph Civic Association (RCA). Of the 120 members, approximately 110 have chosen to take advantage of our membership offer that includes a discount card for local businesses. All participating businesses can be found on the RCA’s website: http://randolphcivic.org/about/benefitscard/. Colby said that the RCA had a second rush for members with advertisement in a second Echo newsletter. There was a discussion about when the membership drive for this year would end. We will have one more Echo advertising RCA membership. During this discussion, it was mentioned that the RCA’s spring event, MusicFest, needs to be put on the calendar.

County Council At-Large Forum, March 7

Important neighborhood meeting Thursday, March 7th at 8 pm at the Viers Mill Rec Center (map).

We have invited our 4 At-Large Council Members to hear us present our neighborhood priorities and for them to provide an update on their agenda for the coming year. We are looking forward to hosting Council Members Hans Reimer, Will Jawando, Evan Glass and Gabe Albornoz. Council Members Jawando, Glass and Albornoz were recently elected to their first term on the Council. It is important for them to understand and appreciate our neighborhood priorities. Having all four At-Large Council Members at our community meeting is a special and unusual opportunity. This is our chance to show our Council Members that we have a strong community who should be considered as they grapple with the budget. To do that, we collectively need to show up to the meeting. Let’s fill the room with neighbors! We’ve long maintained strong relationships with our elected officials, and it has served us well over the years. Let’s show our Council Members how great and dedicated our community can be. If you come to one meeting this year, this should be the one.

RCA October Meeting- District 18 State Delegation + Montrose East Project Manager

After a restful summer break, the RCA hits the ground running with our October general meeting featuring our own District 18 delegation: Senator Rich Madaleno, and Representatives Jeff Waldstreicher, Al Carr, and Ana Sol Gutierrez. This is a pretty big deal, getting all of them here at once ready to address our concerns. Let’s pack the house and show them our neighborhood matters.

We will be discussing Montrose Parkway East, the Garrett Park Road bridge, and a new MARC station and pedestrian crossing at Wyaconda Road in addition to your other state level concerns.

Also, Jon Hutchings, the project manager for the Montrose Parkway East project will be on hand to give a brief overview of the planned roadway and will answer any questions.

Please join us Thursday, October 5th, 8pm at the Veirs Mill Park community center located near the corner of Garrett Park Rd and Beach Drive.

April RCA Meeting

Many in the community have been quite understandably concerned following the Ashley Drive house explosion of March 17. There remain many unanswered questions on issues including interior and exterior natural gas leaks, clean up and security at the explosion site, and remediation of damage to surrounding homes.

This coming Thursday, April 6 we will be hosting representatives from the Fire Department, Police Department, Washington Gas, Councilmember Navarro’s office, and the county Regional Services center to help answer questions on these and many other important issues .

Please plan on coming out- this is an exceedingly rare opportunity for access to so many sources of information in one place, and right here in our community.

Date: April 6, 2017 8:00-9:30pm

Location:
Viers Mill Rec Center
4425 Garrett Park Road
(Intersection of Garrett Park Road and Beach Drive)

General Meeting, February 2

Join us on Thursday, February 2, 2017, at 8pm when we welcome County Councilmember Nancy Navarro to speak and answer questions on topics of concern to our community.
