Winter Beer Garden Pictures

By most measures, our first Beer Garden event this past Saturday was very successful.  The beers and air were cold, but the bonfires and neighborly smiles were warm.  Thank you to our friends at 7 Locks Brewing, True Respite Brewing, and Cafe 2020 Korean Kitchen + Bar for helping make this event possible.

Winter Beer Garden Event, Saturday February 9

WHAT: RCA Winter Beer Garden
WHERE: The RCA Civic Green @ Randolph Hills Shopping Center map
WHEN: Saturday, February 9th, 3pm to 8pm

During October’s Placemaking Festival, the RCA was approached by True Respite Brewing Company to partner with them on a winter beer garden festival. The RCA board were enthusiastic about making this idea a reality. With the new firepits, furniture, and trees in place, the brewers and the RCA saw the green space on the edge of the Randolph Hills Shopping Center as the perfect place for such an event.

The RCA is excited about this new partnership, as it is a fantastic opportunity to pick up where the Placemaking Festival left off. The fire pits and awesome furniture are still on site at the corner of Rocking Horse Rd and Boiling Brook Pkwy, begging to be used for another exciting festival. So mark your calendars: on Saturday, February 9th from 3pm to 8pm, come have a beer or two or three with your neighbors around the fire pit. In addition to True Respite, neighborhood hangouts 7 Locks Brewing, Cafe and 2020 Korean Kitchen + Bar will also be at the event.

So bundle up, bring the family, and come enjoy the crisp winter air. Keep an eye on this website, our Facebook page, and Nextdoor for additional details as we draw closer to the event!

Better Block Survey Results

Earlier this year, Better Block and Montgomery County Planning conducted a survey to determine what features and amenities people appreciate most in the Randolph Hills Shopping Center and in our area in general.  100 people participated.  See results below or click here to download.

Better Block Festival

From October 11th through 14th, the Randolph Hills Shopping Center is going to be the site of a “placemaking event” organized by Better Block Foundation, Montgomery County Planning Department, and the Randolph Civic Association. This will be an opportunity to re-imagine what the shopping center could be though community engagement, ideas, and participation.  Culminating in a two day festival featuring food vendors, kids activities, and live music, it is sure to be a lively event and an exciting opportunity for RCA-land!

Volunteer for a Better Block

The Randolph Civic Association is partnering with Montgomery Planning and the Better Block Foundation on a project to improve the neighborhood of Randolph Hills and specifically the Randolph Hills Shopping Center.

We will be providing SSL opportunities for kids and great opportunities for adults to get involved. For example, we’re hoping to landscape and decorate the shopping center, and create a pop-up art exhibit as well as showcasing local performers, including dance or music. Innovative ideas are welcome!

We’re still in the planning stage, so there’s nothing set in stone yet, but possible opportunities include helping to set up the art exhibit, constructing a temporary amphitheater, organizing and inventorying materials, painting a mural, building display kiosks, welcoming and guiding visitors, and laying out a temporary bike lane.

The main Better Block event will be Saturday Oct. 13 and we will need the majority of volunteers the day of the event, but there will be some work over the summer or in September.

If you’re interested, contact Mara Greengrass at 301-802-1950 or treasurer@randolphcivic.org. For more information about the project, check out Montgomery Planning’s site.
