Special RCA Meeting: Thrive Montgomery 2050

WHEN: Thursday, January 9th, 8pm
WHERE: Veirs Mill Park Activity Building, 4425 Garrett Park Road
RSVP on Facebook or Nextdoor

Please join the RCA on Thursday, January 9th at the Veirs Mill Park Activity Building (4425 Garrett Park Road) for a special General Meeting to discuss and develop a community position on Thrive Montgomery 2050 (https://montgomeryplanning.org/planning/master-plan-list/general-plans/thrive-montgomery-2050/). Thrive Montgomery 2050 is a future General Plan. General Plans include long-term vision with broad policies that will guide future, more detailed land use planning, public investments in infrastructure and communities, amenities, and private development.

Montgomery County Planning has provided a toolkit called a Meeting-in-a-Box (https://montgomeryplanning.org/planning/master-plan-list/general-plans/thrive-montgomery-2050/thrive-montgomery-2050-meeting-in-a-box/) for civic associations like the RCA to provide targeted feedback to help inform and shape the Thrive Montgomery 2050 plan. We will follow the County’s suggested meeting format. We plan to discuss the RCA community’s priorities related to equity, environment, economy, transportation, housing, parks and open space, design, arts, and culture, and our overall top priorities among the aforementioned categories.

After the conclusion of the RCA General Meeting, the RCA intends to combine all community input and submit comments on Thrive Montgomery 2050 on behalf of our community. If you would like to provide input to the RCA but are unable to attend, feel free to email your priorities directly to josh@randolphcivic.org by January 20, 2020. Individuals can also submit their own comments (https://montgomeryplanning.org/planning/master-plan-list/general-plans/thrive-montgomery-2050/thrive-montgomery-2050-meeting-in-a-box/#worksheet).

County Council At-Large Forum, March 7

Important neighborhood meeting Thursday, March 7th at 8 pm at the Viers Mill Rec Center (map).

We have invited our 4 At-Large Council Members to hear us present our neighborhood priorities and for them to provide an update on their agenda for the coming year. We are looking forward to hosting Council Members Hans Reimer, Will Jawando, Evan Glass and Gabe Albornoz. Council Members Jawando, Glass and Albornoz were recently elected to their first term on the Council. It is important for them to understand and appreciate our neighborhood priorities. Having all four At-Large Council Members at our community meeting is a special and unusual opportunity. This is our chance to show our Council Members that we have a strong community who should be considered as they grapple with the budget. To do that, we collectively need to show up to the meeting. Let’s fill the room with neighbors! We’ve long maintained strong relationships with our elected officials, and it has served us well over the years. Let’s show our Council Members how great and dedicated our community can be. If you come to one meeting this year, this should be the one.
